Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make a booking?
Simply head to our Book Now page, select your preferred dates and accommodation site, and submit an inquiry. We personally review every booking request to ensure we can give you the best experience possible. You’ll hear back from us within 24 hours to confirm your reservation.
What's your cancellation policy?
We understand plans change. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or modify your booking. Cancellation fees may apply depending on how close to your arrival date you cancel. Full details will be provided in your booking confirmation email.
Where can I dispose of black water?
If your vehicle has a black water tank, disposal facilities are located in Tarcutta, approximately 15 minutes from the property. Plan your tank capacity accordingly.
Can I pitch a tent?
Absolutely! Tent and swag camping is welcome at our BYO sites. You’ll have access to The Hub’s shared kitchen, toilet and shower facilities just a short walk away.
Is there power and water hookup?
Our BYO sites offer unpowered, off-grid bush camping. You can charge devices at The Hub, which also provides facilities and services. Water is a precious resource and should be used only for drinking and accessing Hub services during your stay. We do not offer tank refills.
What about phone reception and WiFi?
Phone reception is hit and miss depending on your carrier and location on the trails; some areas are great, others not so much. WiFi isn’t available. But here’s the upside: it’s the perfect excuse to unplug from the noise and tune into what’s around you. The stars put any screen to shame.
What's the weather like?
Australian bush weather keeps you on your toes. Summer days get properly hot, winter nights get genuinely cold, and anything can happen in between. Come prepared for all conditions, stay flexible, and embrace whatever nature serves up. That’s part of the adventure.
Can I have a campfire?
Yes, we provide firewood and each site has its own firepit. There’s nothing quite like gathering around a fire under a canopy of stars. However, campfires must comply with local fire regulations and may be restricted during Total Fire Ban days. We’ll keep you informed of any restrictions before your arrival.
Are pets allowed?
No pets are permitted at this time. We share this property with kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, over 85 bird species (and counting!), and countless other native animals. We back onto the Ellerslie Nature Reserve, home to rare and threatened species including the swift parrot, turquoise parrot, scarlet robin, brown tree-creeper, and black-chinned honeyeater. They were here first, and we want to keep it that way.
What should I bring?
Pack for a bush camping adventure: all your food and drinks, weather-appropriate clothing (layers are your friend), sturdy footwear for bushwalking, sun protection, insect repellent, a torch, and anything else you need for a comfortable stay. We provide firewood, but bring the marshmallows.
What shouldn't I bring?
Please note that fireworks, motorbikes and firearms are strictly prohibited on the property.
How do I get there?
We’re located near Tarcutta, NSW — roughly 50 minutes from Tumut, 2.5 hours from Canberra, 4.5 hours from Melbourne, and 4.5 hours from Sydney. The property is accessible by sealed road with a final 7km stretch on unsealed road that can be quite rocky but is suitable for caravans and campervans. Detailed directions including site-specific access information are provided when you book.
What about creepy crawlies, flies and mozzies?
This is the Australian bush, insects are part of the package. Flies can be persistent during warmer months, mosquitoes come out at dusk, and you’ll likely spot a few spiders and lizards going about their business. Bring insect repellent, consider a fly net for your hat, and remember: they’re mostly more scared of you than you are of them.
Is the property suitable for children?
Absolutely, Riverina Retreat is suitable for outdoorsy families and adventure seekers. However, please note that our dams and seasonal creeks are unfenced and natural, requiring close supervision of children at all times. This is a working bush property, so common sense and active parenting are essential. The wildlife encounters and outdoor adventures will give kids memories they’ll talk about for years.
Can I book multiple sites for a group?
Yes! For larger groups, functions, or events, we can accommodate up to 20 guests overnight. Contact us directly to discuss your group’s needs, and we’ll help you find the right combination of sites. Corporate groups, family time and celebrations, small intimate gatherings, wellness and wellbeing escapes, nature getaways and many, many other groups seeking a nature escape are all welcome.
